A Golden Band

I don’t know how many country songs have been made about the significance of wedding bands, but I need one. I’ve wanted James and I to have a nice matched set for a while now, but it is quickly progressing to a need rather than just an “I want.”

I stopped to get my hair cut today and the 40ish divorcee cutting my hair was pretty much shamelessly flirting with me. Ordinarily, even when it’s a cute guy, I’m pretty oblivious to these things. It either dawns on me later on or well after I should have noticed it. Well, it was way past the point I should have noticed it and I suddenly became uncomfortable by it; it actually freaked me out a little. I guess part of it has to do with the fact that I couldn’t just make up a reason to leave, as you could do if you were simply having a conversation with someone. She was in the middle of cutting my hair! Where’s Layton when you need him??? ๐Ÿ™‚

For you straight men who might be interested, she’s 40-ish, recently divorced, likes antiques and kids. She’s definitely not unattractive and seems to take care of herself; but then again she is a fish! In the mean time, I need a wedding band – or maybe a crucifix.

UK Friends

I spoke with one of our UK friends, Duncan, on the phone and they are fine. Dunc is in Chester and ‘bat has gone off camping in Wales. They have given up their flat in London, and as they always have impeccable timing, they just gave it up last week.

When he answered the phone I said, “you survived!” Dunc said, “we weren’t in London.” I said, “no, I meant George Bush’s visit! He hasn’t crashed into you on his bicycle has he?” Dunc laughed and said, “well he hasn’t left yet.”

Now we just need to hear from Ed Deluzain, my high school English teacher who has just gone over there for a visit.

Memorializing

Nice long weekend, got a few things done and caught up on some much needed relaxing.

Yesterday we had a block party during the afternoon, then in the evening we went over to Bobby & Ian’s for dinner. They had a few people over, and it was a great deal of fun. While I was over there (while playing air hockey with Ian, as a matter of fact) I realized how totally comfortable and at home I feel at their house. We caught up with some people we know, and also their friends Jeff and Jeremy, who we don’t see to often. They are very pleasant comany and are going on a cruise next week. Something James & I have yet to do but would like to. One day when visa issues are sorted out.

Heaven Can Wait

We’re baaack. Smooth travels since we last spoke ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is a link to the previously mentioned tapas restaurant where we ate on Friday night. Turns out they have locations all over the UK. We passed one on Saturday in London.

Earlier on Saturday, we also visited a place called Watergate’s. I didn’t learn until later that it is an old crypt of some sort (wonder if ‘bat and Dunc are aware!). The ceilings were really unique (have a close look at the photo in the link). Neat place! We only popped in for a drink.

Dinner on Saturday night, after the brief rest mentioned in the last entry, was at a place called Dutton’s. The food was okay but the company was great. Two friends of ‘bat & Dunc’s caught up with us, Mark and Gareth. They both seemed very nice, but unfortunately it is difficult to get to know people very well in the span of a few hours over dinner and then being in a noisy bar. However, they (as well as Neil) have been given engraved invitations to come visit us in the States, assuming that Immigra will let them in, since they are nasty foreigners. More on that later.

After dinner, we set out for Club Six T Nine. The name is very indicative of the type place that it is. Sadly (or happily, however you want to view it) this establishment is about 4 doors down and across the street from ‘bat & Dunc’s. They said they have literally had people they had never met follow them home, thinking the party was moving there – not that they go there very often. It’s geared to the younger set, but this is where we spent our evening – the up side was its proximity and also it was more economical…given that the US peso is now worth about 1/50th of a UK pound, imbibements were a bit more affordable. Time flies when you’re having fun…we ended up there until it closed – whatever time that was – we just sat around chatting about life in general.

Weekend Update

Had a pretty nice weekend. Friday started off with our usual coffee, which is always enjoyable. Tried a new Mexican place, Cristina’s, that just opened up. Brian M and Paul came with. It was okay – better than that crappy Posado’s but not as good as Hacienda. James liked it better because it wasn’t as spicey.

Saturday was pretty lazy – I wanted to do some geocaching but I thought it was a little cold (50) and it was meant to be warmer Sun. I ended up puttering away most of the day and then we decided at the last minute to have steak and we had Ian over while Bobby went to taste some pianos or something (read his blog to find out more). I have to say, I can grill a pretty awesome steak and it’s about as good as some of the pricey restaurants. I always enjoy it with mushrooms, bleu cheese and red wine – it’s a fantastic combination of flavors! We then went to see “In Good Company” with Dennis Quaid and Topher Grace – pretty good.
